We’re delighted to announce the release today of the latest Stephen Dodgson recording – the first instalment of his many works for winds, performed by the talented young Magnard Ensemble and mezzo-soprano Kate Howden (who also takes the title role in Stephen Dodgson’s opera Margaret Catchpole this summer).
The recording is the fourth album in the Toccata Classics survey of Stephen Dodgson’s chamber music.
Much of the CD’s repertoire brings his sense of fun to the fore, often through rhythmic mischief or an insouciance that recalls Poulenc, but it also has that particularly English strain of lyricism that suggests the impermanence of beauty.
