Summa Musica presents a concert of Advent- and Christmas-inspired repertoire at Balingup Town Hall in Australia’s Southwest including Dodgson’s Illuminare Jerusalem – the text proclaiming the arrival of the Christ child and the light he will bring to the world. Written for lower voices, it was originally commissioned and recorded by the King’s Singers.
Summa Musica directed by Anthony Maydwell was formed in 1995 to present the first performances in modern times of significant unaccompanied choral repertoire chiefly from the Late Renaissance, particularly the music of Holy Week. In addition it has presented many Australian premieres of works from all periods including Gesualdo, Naji Hakim, Haydn, Ben Holten, Lotti, Rachmaninoff, Einojuhani Rautavaara and Richard Strauss, Utendal, Victoria to name but a few. Most recently the choir has commenced an ongoing series of concerts of reconstructed Bolivian Baroque repertoire. The choir has broadcast and recorded for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
(The concert is being performed twice, at 4pm and 6pm.)
