Tenor James Gilchrist and guitarist Mark Eden perform Stephen Dodgson’s Four Poems of John Clare and London Lyrics in an evening recital as part of the Dillington Guitar Festival. Observe little Trotty Wagtail as he gently waddles  around looking for the odd worm and join the fox on his dramatic bid to outrace the hounds. Reflect on the timelessness of old Father Thames who reaches from age to age and outlives us all. And find out what is even worse than all the vices and evils of the backstreets of 17th-century London!

James recently returned to the Wigmore Hall to begin his project with Anna Tilbrook, Schumann and the English Romantics, pairing Schumann song cycles with new commissions from leading composers, Sally Beamish, Julian Philips and Jonathan Dove, setting English poetry of the Romantic period.

Mark Eden is better known as one half of the Eden Stell Guitar Duo and is also a founder member of the VIDA Guitar Quartet. Both ensembles have achieved international acclaim and continue to perform at some of the most prestigious venues, International guitar and music festivals all over the world.

Concert £17 (under 18s £8)
Pre-concert Suppers available £29.95 per person

The London Festival of Contemporary Church Music opens on Friday 8th May with ‘Arise, My Darling’, a concert from stellar London chamber choir Pegasus. The evening explores a range of sacred works by modern composers and includes Stephen Dodgson’s ‘Dormi Jesu’. This beautiful simple soprano-alto-tenor miniature mixes medieval harmonies with hint of modernism to produce an exquisite vision of the Virgin Mary nurturing the young Christ child.
