About the festival

This year’s Testaccio classical music festival is dedicated mainly to the ‘European 900’ and beyond; it ranges from a solo concert to small chamber ensembles such as the duo and the trio.

Each concert is preceded by a brief presentation by Francesco Maschio , who guides the audience through the different languages that have characterised this century.

The cultivated music of the ‘900’ can pleasantly surprise for its variety : from neoromanticism to dodecaphony, from modality to improvisation, from serialism to electronic music.
The concerts of the festival offer a small cross-section, looking at a recent past that is still very much alive with a historical perspective.

The London Festival of Contemporary Church Music opens on Friday 8th May with ‘Arise, My Darling’, a concert from stellar London chamber choir Pegasus. The evening explores a range of sacred works by modern composers and includes Stephen Dodgson’s ‘Dormi Jesu’. This beautiful simple soprano-alto-tenor miniature mixes medieval harmonies with hint of modernism to produce an exquisite vision of the Virgin Mary nurturing the young Christ child.
